Elk
Elk

One of the largest terrestrial mammals in North America, the majestic Elk is the second largest of the deer species. These mighty animals are typically 600 – 1,000 lbs. with majestic antlers. Their large stature does not hinder their speed, as they are capable of speeds up to 45 miles per hour. Elk meat is popular, as it is leaner and higher in protein than beef or chicken. Being non-native to our area, elk can be hunted anytime but the bull elk’s antlers harden during the autumn and winter months with August the best month to find them with velveted antlers.
